Volume integral equations for electromagnetic scattering in two dimensions
We study the strongly singular volume integral equation that describes the scattering of time-harmonic electromagnetic waves by a penetrable obstacle. We consider the case of a cylindrical obstacle and fields invariant along the axis of the cylinder, which allows the reduction to two-dimensional problems. With this simplification, we can refine the analysis of the essential spectrum of the volu...
متن کاملVolume and surface integral equations for electromagnetic scattering by a dielectric body
We derive and analyze two equivalent integral formulations for the time-harmonic electromagnetic scattering by a dielectric object. One is a volume integral equation (VIE) with a strongly singular kernel and the other one is a coupled surface-volume system of integral equations with weakly singular kernels. The analysis of the coupled system is based on standard Fredholm integral equations, and...
متن کاملNonlinear integral equations for an inverse electromagnetic scattering problem
We present a new method to solve an inverse scattering problem for time-harmonic electromagnetic waves. The method is based on an equivalence relation of the inverse problem to a system of two integral equations. This system can be solved numerically by a recently developed spectral method for the direct scattering problem.
متن کاملVolume Integral Equations for Scattering from Anisotropic Diffraction Gratings
We analyze electromagnetic scattering of TM polarized waves from a diffraction grating consisting of a periodic, anisotropic, and possibly negative-index dielectric material. Such scattering problems are important for the modelization of, e.g., light propagation in nano-optical components and metamaterials. The periodic scattering problem can be reformulated as a strongly singular volume integr...
متن کاملSpectrum of the Volume Integral Operator of Electromagnetic Scattering
Spectrum of the volume integral operator of the three-dimensional electromagnetic scattering is analyzed. The operator has both continuous essential spectrum, which dominates at lower frequencies, and discrete eigenvalues, which spread out at higher ones. The explicit expression of the operator’s symbol provides exact outline of the essential spectrum for any inhomogeneous anisotropic scatterer...
